Nanna Ivarsson is one of the world's premier artisan pipe makers, and she comes from a family whose influence an artisan pipe making can't be understated: Her grandfather, Sixten, is widely considered responsible for the artisan pipe making movement, and her father, Lars, brought the movement to new heights and standards during his life and tenure. Now, Nanna continues that tradition and influence, having made her marks as a craftsman and artist.

Many of Ivarsson's pipes combine organic shaping with traditional Danish shaping cues, namely supple lines, soft curves, often with accenting teardrop lines along the shank and tasteful inclusions of plateau. This bent Brandy, however, departs slightly from that organic aesthetic and leans more heavily toward traditional standards, with a touch of modern design motifs incorporated. The general shape is a classic bent Brandy — the bowl tapering upward toward the rim, while the undercurve remains consistent and founds the composition. More modern sensibilities commend the traditional form, though, especially in this piece's compact size and the shaping of the stem base, which deftly continues the lines of the shank into a rounded dome — a theme seen across today's current artisan pipemaking milieu. It's a tastefully considered touch in this piece, as Nanna echoes the plump, voluptuous bowl at the rounded stem base. Covered in superlative grain and a vibrant finish, the color palette is bright and inviting, emphasized by the yellow tones of the boxwood ring at the shank end.
