Sandblasted Apple with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe

Emanuel de Queiroz Emiliano started smoking in seminary and was inspired by the pipes of his countrymen to begin carving his own, having since become one of Brazil's most accomplished artisans: drawing from a variety of styles to cultivate a unique, sophisticated portfolio. This Apple is a plump, Danish-style interpretation of the timeless shape that boasts a light weight and a balanced build. A wide transition pairs the bowl to an extremely brief shank that tapers subtly as it meets a trim band of black vulcanite. The transition itself is subtly cheeked, adding some extra definition to the bowl that nicely enhances the look of its curves. At the band of vulcanite, the shank pairs to a stretch of organic bamboo comprising two knuckles of the dense grass, with another black vulcanite ring flanking the aft side of the bamboo. Underneath the dense grass, two divots in the material have been extended into both of its flanking black bands, creating a cohesive build that's emphasized further by the stem. This stem features a flared expansion ring at its base that emulates the look of the bamboo's rhythm before dipping into a sleek saddle bit, the arrangement nicely balancing the presence of the bowl. Up front, the bowl stands on a rounded heel and grows out to a low-set waistline, nicely filling the contours of the hand before making an arcing taper to the rim. Dressed in a crisp, earthy sandblast, the stummel here displays handsome grain, while the smooth rim and pale tones of the bamboo offer lovely contrast.
