About This Pipe
Inspired by that story, Canadian artisan Michael Parks has fashioned this Calabash, imbuing it with the gravitas and intentionality befitting such a legendary myth. A sizeable composition, this piece measures more than ten inches long and features a bowl over two inches tall, its impressive length and height commanding attention. Parks, knowing the impressive scale of this, has included a display stand to showcase his creation — the stand suspending the shape from its protracted stem, allowing the fullness of the form to be appreciated.
Shape-wise, this piece is a fully functioning Calabash, its domed rim removable and home to a chamber that collects moisture and cools the smoke before its passed to the airway. The rim cap is made, appropriately, from alabaster, matching an accent of the same at the shank end. The alabaster adds a touch of vibrancy to the pipe's color pallete, without distracting from the complexity of the finish: a gorgeous contrast stain that highlights impeccable cross grain along either flank of the stummel.
