About This Pipe
Scott Thile's signature Bulldog shape is quite an interesting one, combining a rather trim bowl with a more muscular, stout style of tapering diamond shank and stem. This reversal of traditional proportions is common among other pipe designs from various modern American carvers, but Scott's application of that theme to a traditionally sharp-lined, architectural form is just charming — giving a more playful air to the typically rigid and standardized shape. We see that on full display here in this sandblasted rendition, featuring a delicate display of ring grain and blasted birdseye peeking out from underneath its warm, slightly smoky chestnut sandblast.
