About This Pipe

Though taller and more consistently plump, this bent Apple from Micah Redmond still displays the iconic form of the American carver's signature Tomato design. The shape is marked by incredibly stout proportions through the shank, transition, and — most obviously — the bowl. Despite the muscular proportions, though, this piece has a fair amount of implied momentum, lending the silhouette a dynamic stance that seems to contradict its hearty nature. This is brought on by the subtly bent saddle stem and slight forward cant of the bowl, the consistent underside curling uninterrupted to the rim's fore. Needless to say, this piece fits superbly in hand, yet what's surprising is that it's also able to sit upright: Devoid of any sort of paneling at the heel, the bowl's center of gravity still ensures it won't tip over should you need to set it down for a spell. Lastly, Micah's dressed it in a deep, walnut stain, contrasting well against the pale, natural hue of the boxwood ring at the shank end.
