Sandblasted Morta Dora with Birchwood Tobacco Pipe

Among Dirk Heinemann's signature designs, the Dora is a shape defined by a rotund, Tomato bowl and a broad, stylized shank. Instead of altering the bowl, though, the German carver adds individuality across his Dora renditions through the shank — often accenting it with different hardwoods and uniquely incorporating ridgelines. The shank of this iteration maintains a smoother sense of line, though it flares broadly in profile as is characteristic of Heinemann's design, matching the bowl's muscularity. From an aerial perspective, however, the bowl's breadth dominates, and the shank is contrastingly slender for a sleek, cutting sense of streamlined aerodynamism. Despite the hearty proportions, this is a tight-knit pipe of pocket-friendly, Nosewarmer length for versatile use, and unlike Dirk's many other versions, this piece has been fashioned from jet-black morta — a material consisting of petrified bog oak that's prized for its heat resistance and alluring grain patterns. The grain is highlighted here in a crisp sandblast, revealing concentric circles intersected by fine, horizontal striations, and the dark color palette is handsomely accented by a light-hued section of birchwood adorning the entire shank face, its inky lines of grain complementing the color and texture of the morta.
