About This Pipe
Ken Dederichs' fondness for organic, Freehand-like shapes is on full display with this eye-catching Standing Vase design. Possessing a uniquely Danish aesthetic, this piece boasts robust proportions, subtle channels, and crisp ridgelines, all of which evoke the look and feel of classic Fancy Freehands. As one might expect from a pipe titled "Standing Vase," this piece possesses a muscular, full-bodied bowl that rests atop a flat, sure-sitting heel. From said heel, the bowl grows thick, insulating walls that flare out at a dramatic forward cant and terminate at a broad, undulating rim of craggy plateau. A tight-knit transition pairs said bowl to a vertically inclined shank-and-stem arrangement that promotes a comfortable smoking posture and keeps the shape's overall footprint fairly subdued. A warm, contrast-rich smooth finish dresses the ensemble and highlights gorgeous flame grain across the bowl and shank alike.
