About This Pipe
Similar to a Freehand we received a few years ago from Ken Dederichs, this offering is expertly shaped to elevate the briar's natural grain to greater heights. Shape-wise, this Freehand's profile calls to mind Dederich's Mushroom designs, appearing as if Ken perfectly sliced the front of the Mushroom's bowl at an angle without interrupting the immaculate grain on display. A firm ridgeline wraps around the bowl's aft, giving the rim its domed shape while a pair of ridgelines wrap around the bowl's base, framing a striking array of cross grain. The bowl's curved, bulging fore features a captivating array of swirling birdseye across its surface, resembling the Elephant Foot's shape when viewed straight on. A pale boxwood accent mount graces the shank end, its subtle flare mirrored by the disc-shaped base of the elegantly arching mouthpiece. It's a striking design with plenty of intriguing elements, yet remains cohesive and well-executed.
