About This Pipe
This might be the most shapely briar we've seen from Jody Davis to date, featuring a full-bodied, softly contoured Brandy bowl followed up by a tight-knit, fully bent shank and stem arrangement. The bowl itself seems to bear the majority of the visual weight in profile, with its full heel and base serving as the foundation for a rising, convex taper along the fore and aft — carefully oriented so that the form's low-set waistline fits naturally with the contours of the palm. Jody's balanced things out quite nicely in profile, however, employing a visual step of sorts between bowl, transition, and shank through elegant tapering lines — adding dynamism in profile without compromising the shape's inherently stout look by keeping the bend full and well-knit. Aside from all that great shaping, Jody's also made sure to deliver on grain as well, orienting wave after wave of undulating ring grain so it climbs up the bowl's taper.
