About This Pipe
Gnarly and untamed, perhaps, at first glance, but geometrically precise upon inspection. The ragged plateau rim, higher on the far side than the near, is among the most narrow I've seen, slightly chamfered and remarkable. Matching that texture is the plateau at the end of the shank, which is much wider, flaring horizontally in an asymmetrical teardrop. No bead lines traverse the bowl here, as Gabriele dal Fiume has chosen a single crisp ridge instead, somewhat lower on the bowl than is customary, providing a waistline at the approximate midpoint and a convenient surface above for resting a forefinger or thumb. Radiating flame grain populates the surface of the stummel, highlighted by a dark contrast stain. The sandblast is low-profile, but certainly provides purchase and tactile feedback.
