About This Pipe
Renowned in the pipe-making world, Hans "Former" Nielsen has refined his craft for over 60 years, and like many pipe makers of his generation, he worked in the esteemed W.Ø. Larsen workshop. His style is marked by a seamless blend of elegant shaping, flawless engineering, and refined presentation, creating pipes that are visually striking, pleasant to handle, and comfortable to smoke. Resembling this piece's namesake, this Acorn by Former is an organic rendition that calls to mind a natural acorn, with a partially sandblasted bowl that mimics the look of a cupule, or the top portion of the nut. Along with its organic appeal, the bowl boasts a strong silhouette, with a protruding Pickaxe-like heel and walls that rise to a soft ridgeline that denotes the taper to a plateau-crowned rim. A round shank emerges from the bowl and pairs to one of Former's hand-cut vulcanite saddle stems. As mentioned, the stummel wears a partial sandblast, with the rim and a trim accent along the junction left smooth, the rest is finished in an auburn-hued sandblast, which draws out growth rings that ripple out from the heel.
