About This Pipe
Though Former has created quite a few pipes with bamboo over the years, our archives are surprisingly thin when it comes to those we've carried. In fact, the only other one that seems to have ever made it to an update was one Billiard in estates nearly two years ago, which then sold within 24 hours. It was quite a pleasant surprise, then, to find this graceful number sitting among the other pipes to be described in this batch — this time in the form of a bent Billiard, deftly executed with three solid knuckles of bamboo pulsating up to the stem. The proportions are spot-on with a balanced rhythm between the well-defined transition, shank end, knuckles, and bit — all serving to guide the eye neatly up and along the generous 3/4 lift of the composition. The finish is smooth: a warm, yet defined contrast, with tight, fine licks of flame enveloping the bowl. All in all, a classic Danish interpretation from one of the classic Danish greats — and one that I'll bet won't be up for long.
