Smooth Long Shank Bent Dublin with Silver Tobacco Pipe

Tom Eltang knows how to fashion the Dublin shape. From his Arne Jacobsen design; to sweeping, Calabash-like renditions; to these long-shanked varieties, the Danish carver has mastered every aspect of the form, producing some of the most stunning iterations available. The profile here is defined by the sleek, underlying curve of the stretched shank, flowing uninterrupted through the heel into the bowl's fore. Such a smooth flowing line, then, is contrasted by the bowl's aft — flicking suddenly upward from out of the transition and bulging slightly for an added sense of rigidity, the harsher angle grounding the form amidst the shank and heel's graceful fluidity. The grain matches the shape perfectly as straight and flame grain adorn the entire bowl, leaving birdseye along the slightly inflated rim and top and bottom of the shank. Finally, it's accented with a crisp band of sterling silver at the shank end, an accenting material that's not as often seen from Tom compared to his more commonly seen horn adornments. Stunning work.
