About This Pipe
Birdseye to the flanks, cross-grain running in bands in-between; that's the usual arrangement for a Blowfish, and in the case of this Blowfish, it's just about the only thing that is usual. Look at the polished shank-end, for example. Normally that would just be more cross-grain, but here Lasse saw the chance to get something different out of it, namely, by beveling the right side just right, it displays both cross and birdseye grain, and very neatly at that. Then there's the shape itself, with a dramatic increase in proportions towards the flame-like flare of the shank, and across the entire form a strong dose of the kind of balanced, organic asymmetry more typically associated with Japanese, rather than Danish pipemaking.
