Sandblasted Nautilus with Silver (D) Tobacco Pipe

The Nautilus design isn't one seen frequently from Il Duca's Max Rimensi, so this rendition is especially appreciated. While Bo Nordh originated the shape, Max has exaggerated the form a bit here, with more scrolling and playfulness than seen in most other versions. Clearly a highly organic shape, the Dublin-like bowl flares toward a softly inflated rim that, when viewed from above, resembles a lens. The shank curls around itself multiple times, resembling the shell of a snail — an intriguing and memorable aspect that bespeaks Rimensi's skill as a carver. This piece is dressed in a crisp, dark sandblast, with the rim rendered smooth for textural diversity. Perhaps the most unique facet of this pipe is the trim, silver ring inlaid at the base of the military-style stem for a tasteful, elegant accent.
