About This Pipe

Dirk Heinemann has an impressively diverse portfolio, deftly able to craft fluid, gestural designs as well as more architectural, Freehand-inspired shapes. His work showcases a penchant for experimentation, pushing the boundaries of pipe making with his distinctive, avant-garde style, as evidenced by this Cuban shape. It calls to mind his Tuban design with its minimalistic, streamlined aesthetic and compact proportions, with this piece coming in under four inches in total length. While the Tuban designs have a gestural, sweeping undercurve, this piece is a more stout, cigar-like design, with the tobacco chamber at the fore of the bowl rather than the top. Most of the stummel wears a crisp, low-profile sandblast that adds plenty of stimulating texture to delight the fingers, save for the plunging, smoothly polished section at the topside. The saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite tops things off quite nicely, extending from the top of the pipe for a comfortable smoking posture. Lightweight and full of plenty aesthetic charm, this piece features reverse Calabash engineering, ensuring a cooler, drier smoke as the chamber collects excess moisture. It's a creative, lively bit of craftsmanship from the German artisan, and with its compact, travel-friendly proportions it should make an ideal pipe for on-the-go smoking.
