Dirk Heinemann has an impressively diverse portfolio, deftly able to craft fluid, gestural designs as well as more architectural, Freehand-inspired shapes. While the Tuban designs have a gestural, sweeping undercurve, this piece is a more stout, cigar-like design, with the tobacco chamber at the fore of the bowl rather than the top. Most of the stummel wears a crisp, low-profile sandblast that adds plenty of stimulating texture to delight the fingers, save for the plunging, smoothly polished section at the topside. The saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite tops things off quite nicely, extending from the top of the pipe for a comfortable smoking posture. Lightweight and full of plenty aesthetic charm, this piece features reverse Calabash engineering, ensuring a cooler, drier smoke as the chamber collects excess moisture.
