Sandblasted Volcano with Horn (2423) Tobacco Pipe

David Huber made his first pipe in 2010, and by 2014 he was a full-time pipe maker. Studying under pipe making legends like Jeff Gracik, Tom Eltang, Former, and Nanna Ivarsson helped Huber improve his impressive self-taught skills. Huber mainly crafts curvaceous, gestural Freehand-like designs while peppering in traditional shapes on occasion, and his work represents the utmost in finishing quality, grain presentation, and expert craftsmanship.

David Huber doesn't often use accenting materials on his pipes, making the horn shank on this Volcano all the more appealing. The accent begins almost at the transition and flares out as it bends upwards, displaying a lovely combination of creamy white and chocolatey brown hues along the way. The horn shank joins to the remarkably slim vulcanite saddle stem at a military mount, making this pipe a breeze to break down and clean.

Moreover, the Volcano bowl is another unique element from Huber. Many of his previous Volcanoes that we have seen possess defined, low-set ridgelines, whereas here the ridgeline ebbs and flows from peaks at the fore and aft to troughs on the flanks; this exposes the transition and underside, creating a shapely profile. Additionally, the asymmetrical ridgeline pairs well with the craggy sandblast, creating a bevy of natural textures for the fingers to explore. Huber is well regarded for his creative design outlook, and this pipe represents his willingness to experiment even further with his imaginative style.
