About This Pipe

Sam Adebayo draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including artisans such as Todd Johnson, Hiroyuki Tokutomi, and Abe Herbaugh, the American carver having channeled his influences into his own distinctive style. Adebayo's portfolio is often characterized by stocky proportions and gestural dispositions, with both design cues thoroughly illustrated here. Measuring under four and a half inches in length, this bent Apple hosts a hearty substance within an impressively compact form factor, making for a sturdy on-the-go smoker. Squat and plump, the bowl's figure contours well to the hand, its robust, supple walls flaring from the sweeping heel and curving toward the rounded rim. A stout shank curls upward out of the transition from the bowl and meets a demurely downturned saddle stem, with the stem's rounded base accentuating the softness of the overall profile. Fashioned from vibrant blue Bakelite, the stem strikingly contrasts the more reserved palette of the stummel, whose crisp, chocolate-hued sandblast reveals handsome growth rings across the briar, offering plenty of rugged texture to appreciate in hand.
