Sandblasted Bent Dublin (2718) Tobacco Pipe

Sinuous and organic, this piece reflects David Huber's attraction to experimenting with proportion. It's a relatively large pipe with a low-slung transition and deep sweeping curves. It's also a gnarly pipe, with deep sandblast and plateau at both rim and shank end. The tall bowl towers above the transition, and the shank expands from heel to shank end, where it is topped off by a mouthpiece that follows the natural undulations of the briar. The blast is remarkable, with deep concentric circles of growth rings climbing the bowl and the shank in a light honey stain that brings out the grain. The diminutive saddle bit almost disappears in silhouette, throwing all of the visual weight forward to the stummel and completing an aesthetic of forward movement. Very easy to rest in the hand, and chock full of mesmerizing texture, this pipe is a welcome addition to the Huber canon.
