About This Pipe
Stout, muscular, yet very dynamic and bustling with implied energy in profile, this piece from Chris Asteriou is such a beautiful take on the Strawberry shape — really pressing the boundary of the canon to produce something far more playful and whimsical than the norm. This playfulness is realized through Chris' careful attention to line — keeping the taper of the bowl soft, contrasted by the sharp spur at the heel, and further accentuated by the elongated, gently upward sweeping nature of the flared, wasp-waisted shank and transition. Given how beautiful the shape itself is, Chris was wise to present it in such a reserved finish — the extra dark, unaccented sandblast really allowing the form's whimsical lines and beautiful silhouette to truly shine.
