About This Pipe
A great example of Chris Asteriou's more recent, organic style, this slender-as-a-reed Acorn features a strongly tapered bowl with a high-set waistline, a saddle-shaped rim, and a sharp spur along the underside followed by a trim stretch of evenly spaced, pale knuckles of bamboo serving as an extension. The more organic shaping of bowl works beautifully with the balanced rhythm of the bamboo, while giving the whole composition a slightly jaunty look in profile. The extra dark sandblast of stummel was also a great choice to pair with this lighter bamboo, offering a sound contrast that's visually striking, but not ostentatious — more of a natural complement, really. All that ring grain certainly doesn't hurt things either.
