About This Pipe
It's hard to imagine grain this good, but especially so for this shape. The curvature of the Tomato shape is compelling and makes the pipe easy to hold, with galaxies of birdseye strewn over the top of the pipe, and it's difficult to make grain cooperate with such a bulbous shape, but Jess Chonowitsch makes it look easy. The transition to the thin, short shank is excellent, and the two-knuckle bamboo is solid and visually diverting. The saddle stem flares out just a bit before stepping down. The heel of the pipe is perfectly oriented for highlighting the birdseye across the bottom of the pipe. Light enough to clench, though you'll want this in your hand most of the time, just so you may gaze in awe.
