Drawn to the world of pipes, Dublin native Austin Quinlan started acquiring and restoring estate pieces, steadily growing his personal collection while mastering the tooling and engineering behind pipe making. Over time, Quinlan forged a distinctive style grounded in the Anglo-French tradition, marked by robust forms and precise, compact craftsmanship.

That said, unlike many pieces in Quinlan's portfolio, this bent Egg is relatively long, though his signature brawniness remains fully on display. This muscularity is most evident at the fore, where a tall, full-bodied bowl stands proudly, its supple frame and gently tapered flanks supported by a lifted heel. The heel marks the beginning of a consistent undercurve that flows seamlessly into the vaulted shank and demurely curved saddle stem at the pipe's aft. This undercurve visually unites the composition, despite the varied textures and tones that comprise the pipe. These contrasting elements appear in the finish, accent, and mouthpiece: a crisp black sandblast finish, bright smooth boxwood accent, and rustic Cumberland stem. While these features might risk creating a chaotic look, Quinlan's precise shaping ensures they harmonize as a cohesive whole.
