About This Pipe

Claudio Cavicchi is truly a master of his craft, and his ability to coax the best possible grain out of every piece of briar will always astound me. His over 50 years of experience ensures that his pipes are not only beautiful, but expertly shaped and precisely drilled. This iteration of the Rhodesian is one of Cavicchi's most interesting, eschewing much of the overt muscularity the shape is often crafted to include. Instead, the profile here showcases a far more lithe, agile character, with a slim shank lifting out of its wide transition to meet a sleek saddle stem possessed of a demure downturn at its bit. The slender appearance of the aft half of this piece belies the appreciably full-bodied heft of its construction, and nicely balances the sturdier look of the bowl up front. Said bowl displays a charmingly Egg-like appearance, with a more mid-set waistline and beadlines that are just a touch offset from that waist, raised closer toward the rim. The added height of the bowl's build enhances the effect of the curvature that flows from the heel upward, affording ample space to appreciate those curves in hand and making for a pipe that's as comfortable as it is effective. With plenty of space in the chamber for contemplative smoking sessions and a warm, light dressing in one of Cavicchi's signature stains, this pipe is rife with appeal, made all the more apparent by the flickering flame grain rising up the flanks of this "CCCC" graded Rhodesian.
