About This Pipe

With over 50 years of experience in making pipes, Claudio Cavicchi has become an expert in the craft with a renowned ability to showcase the best possible grain of each block of briar he uses. This bent Apple from Cavicchi, graded CCC, is a fine example of his stellar craftsmanship. With the round bowl's prominent forward cant and the jutting protrusion of the heel, it affects the appearance of a Cutty. Viewing the pipe's left flank, one will see a river of cross grain flowing from the shank end, through the transitional area, and up the bowl toward the rim. Paired to the bowl's marked cant and the aft wall's diminished curve, this intentional orientation of the grain works to create forward-surging motion. The transition is obtuse, giving way to an elliptical shank with a subtle upward curve that is reversed in the demurely bent saddle stem. A honey-blonde smooth stain dresses the stummel, highlighting smokey swirls of birdseye that flow uninterrupted from the fore-facing rim, around the slick curvature of the bowl's fore, and over the lip of the heel toward the shank's aft.
