About This Pipe
From above, the bowl of this Chris Askwith Freehand is perfectly lenticular, belying its seemingly rounded disposition in profile, but reinforcing its lithe, practically regal aesthetic. It seems to draw inspiration from the Italian school, with a good bit of visual weight lent to the bowl up front, and an easy sense of taper from transition to bit. There's a bit of implied forward motion displayed in silhouette, with the fore's crisp ridge practically slicing through the air, and as Chris opted for a very light-depth sandblast, there's nary a line out of place. Finished in a warm terracotta stain over top the neat blast, it's adorned with a broad silver accent band, along with a light amber-colored polyester stem. A seriously elegant piece.
