Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe

Alexander Hasty combines the soft lines and supple curves of Danish design cues with the slightly muscular stoutness of American artisans in this bent Brandy rendition, packing a lot of character into Nosewarmer dimensions. The bowl displays a forward surge, the trailing edge shaped with a more lively slope for a sense of implied momentum, while cheeking at the transition and an upward curve to the shank provide a supple feel in hand.

Hasty has dressed the piece in a jet-black sandblast to accentuate stunning ring grain, with the inflated rim stained a lighter hue and left smooth for a nice contrast. A band of pale Ivorite graces the shank end, concealing a standard mortise-and-tenon arrangement and generating a nice visual break between the dark hues of stem and stummel. The stem flares into a trim expansion ring before reducing to a sleek, hand-cut saddle design, bending perfectly to mirror the upturned shank and completing a compact S-curve.
