Sandblasted Arne Jacobsen with Pataua Tobacco Pipe

Brazilian-born artisan Luiz Lavos developed an early appreciation for woodworking in his grandfather's workshop. His background as a graphic designer, paired with his woodworking skills, eventually led him to pipe making. Lavos draws inspiration from renowned Danish designers like Tom Eltang, Jess Chonowitsch, and Hans "Former" Nielsen. This piece from Luiz Lavos is named after famous Danish architect Arne Jacobsen — known for his work in the school of architectural functionalism and innovative furniture designs. Jacobsen was also an avid pipe smoker, commonly using a slender, lightweight Dublin much like this particular rendition seen here. The bowl stands tall and despite its slim proportions, the tobacco chamber is almost two inches deep, ensuring plenty of long, undemanding smoking sessions. Met at a band of pale Pataua, an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement emerges from the bowl and adds a touch of harmonious balance to the overall form. The stummel wears an inky-hued sandblast that accentuates the briar's natural grain, save for the smooth, red-stained rim for a touch of contrast.
