About This Pipe
While Jeff's more complex, freehand-inspired work has received quite a bit of recognition, let us not forget how beautifully he can execute a straight classic as well. This Billiard is a fine example of that, classically informed with strong stylistic cues present from the Danish, Japanese, and American schools of pipe making alike. The bowl itself features that signature Danish waistline, low-set in its vertical position and almost Brandy-like in its subtle taper up to the rim. The transition is trim and defined, and the three-knuckle bamboo shank extension is just beautifully executed, with a consistent, balanced rhythm between the spacing of the transition, knuckles, and backwards slanted stem base. Finished in a low-profile, smoky contrast sandblast, it showcases a number of grain patterns as well. From neatly stacked ring grain climbing the bowl, to smouldering flame streaking up the flanks, to needlepoint birdseye whirling about the smooth polished rim... it's all there in spades.
