About This Pipe
Hans "Former" Nielsen is known for his simple classics — the straight Apple and Billiard being so precisely well-balanced and executed that it is difficult to imagine a more perfect Danish archetype for the shapes. This Acorn hearkens to something else, however — rather than a Danish rendition of an English classic, it's a nod to the older school of Danish pipemaking. Its deep sweep and checkmark-like profile bring to mind those older Pipe-Dan pieces, particularly when paired to a softly-rounded bowl and gentle taper. It's been finished in one of Former's magnificent contrasts, as well, highlighting the wealth of flame to be found here, as well as a whole lot of birdseye at the top of the shank, all of which speaks to Former's incredible eye for the block of briar in hand. Excellent work.
