Sandblasted Pot with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

This Pot from Micah "Yeti" Cryder is reminiscent of a Rhodesian in its execution, with a subtle ridgeline encircling the waist of the muscular, somewhat broad bowl just beneath the slightly tapered rim. Regardless of the shape name, everything about this piece is stellar. From the proportional balance to the sandblast and color palette, there's plenty to admire on this composition. Micah mentioned that he sort of wandered into the shape, but judging from the final results, everything worked out just fine. The sandblasted finish is excellent, with undulating waves of grain rippling up along the flanks, rising in concert with the bowl's flare before erupting into the natural plateau oriented along the rim. The interior of the rim is neatly chamfered and polished smooth, offering subtle textural contrast against the crisp texture unveiled by the sandblast and the dimpled plateau's ruggedness.

While the mix of Pot and Rhodesian elements is somewhat of a new venture for Yeti, this pipe still maintains several of the American artisan's signature elements. Aside from the superb sandblast and incorporating the briar's natural plateau, this piece is also conveniently compact and remarkably light weight as it measures exactly five inches in length and weighs just 38 grams. Cryder is also renowned for his use of antique Bakelite for his stems and the particular piece of Bakelite he paired to the stummel couldn't be more perfect. The light tan hue of the stummel is beautifully complemented by the swirling, creamy tones of the sleek, Bakelite mouthpiece.
