About This Pipe

This is Micah "Yeti" Cryder's 600th pipe, and the American carver enjoys crafting special pieces for such milestones. While the shape itself is quite traditional, hewing closely to classic bent Egg/Brandy standards, it's a noticeable departure from the Dublin and Freehand designs Micah has been carving recently. This shape is one that Cryder has fashioned often throughout his career; however, he's most recently been inclined toward "plateau-up" shapes, as he's said, and a shape like this bent Egg is certainly oriented "plateau-down," so to speak. In essence, then, this milestone pipe celebrates the ebb and flow of creativity and inspiration that pipe makers experience, drifting from one style to another and often circling back around in later years. Dressed in a natural finish, the sandblast has revealed craggy growth rings that seem to cascade down the rounded bowl, while the oval shank curls into a Bakelite stem of ice-cavern blue hues. Such a material not only fits perfectly with Yeti's conventional style of Bakelite and vivid color palettes, but it's also from a very limited, incredibly rare stock of Bakelite — making this 600th piece all the more special and commemorative.
