About This Pipe

Micah "Yeti" Cryder has a fine eye for shaping, and in his relatively short time carving pipes has made big Danish-influenced takes on the Brandy, Dublin, Apple, and Acorn that could have come from American carvers with twice his experience, and Blowfish and Volcanoes that look like they jumped right from the pages of Japanese Naturalism. To me though, his American take on the Cherrywood is his best. Playful of line, with a heavy cant and a concave fore, it's anything but static, with a shank and stem that make almost as much use from negative space as they do the material itself — transitioning sharply in the former and stepping from base to stem in the latter.

Oh, and the finish? Wave upon wave of concentric growth rings, undulating from the flat sitting panel at the base to the smoothly polished and rolling-sloped rim. Perfection.
