About This Pipe
I am thinking an "E" grade was a bit of a too-conservative judgement on this smooth Kikuchi; those flanks are on fire with grain, and the tortoiseshell-pattern birdseye up top absolutely pops. That aside, design-wise what we have here is a familiar Asami Kikuchi approach to curves and proportions applied to a classic form outside her more frequently seen Apples, Brandies, Pots, etc — i.e. shapes by nature more conducive to compact arrangements. She doesn't seem to have any trouble with it though. It's definitely been kept short and handy, yet those lines flow easy as lines can.
