About This Pipe
Kai Nielsen, son of Viggo Nielsen, founder of the Bari pipe factory, entered the world of pipe making in his teen years when he began working part-time at his father's factory. At the age of 21, he became a full-time employee — but that was just the beginning. Today, after years of honing his craft, he boasts an impressive portfolio and is known for his refined, classically Danish carving style. That style is on full display with this charming Acorn, replete with soft, gentle curves and practical proportions.
The bowl of this Acorn is exceptionally plump, with an inflated rim and plenty of cheeking along the transition. Emerging from said transition is an upswept shank-and-stem arrangement, framed by arcing ridgelines on both sides. These ridgelines inform the half-saddle stem, which possesses pinched shoulders and a short, subtly bent bit. The junction between shank and stem is decorated with a pale accent band that stands out against the stummel's otherwise rich, dark color palette. Rendered in practical, compact proportions, this offering is well-suited for travel and general on-the-go smoking, and with its Jewel Of Denmark grade at the "B" level, it showcases gorgeous grain throughout.
