About This Pipe
Scott Thile's distinctive style is inspired by "The Danish neoclassics as interpreted by the North American greats," and that aesthetic is reflected by this gorgeous bent Bulldog. Shape-wise, this piece boasts a muscular bowl that stands at the fore of an upturned diamond shank and a demurely curved tapered stem. Said bowl consists of thick, insulating walls that flare from a firm heel to a broad, beadline-wrapped waistline, before tapering inward at a domed rim. The shank and stem's playful juxtaposition of structural lines and supple curves gives the composition a unique outline, while the shank and stem themselves lend balance to the form and promote a comfortable smoking posture. Dressing this piece is a glossy, contrast-rich smooth finish that highlights gorgeous flame grain and birdseye across the stummel.
