Sandblasted Acorn with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Even if I had not already known, I would have strongly suspected this piece to be the work of Ping Zhan. The combination of organic asymmetry and Danish-inspired form offer one hint, but the real giveaway is out back. The horn shank extension, while not shaped to overtly call to mind the look of bamboo, does have an organic sense of curve to it, and the soft, knuckle-like flare near the mortise is handled in a similar way to Ping's bamboo-like fare. Overall, it's an elegant, naturalistic number, offering equal parts substance and stimulation in hand, and should make for an excellent jaw-hanger. Recommended.
