About This Pipe
Gustavo Cunha, the Brazilian artisan behind marTelo pipes, leverages a background in woodworking and furniture design to fashion a wide range of shapes, from traditional Anglo-French classics to more organic, nature-inspired designs. This "LC" bent Billiard showcases the conservative side of Cunha's shaping style, as well as his fluency and knowledge of pipe history. The "LC" stamping here is a reference to Dunhill's iconic LC Billiard, which, like this pipe, is defined by a stretched transition and a "swan neck" style of S-curve. Cunha has faithfully recreated the LC's iconic silhouette and somehow imbued it with a greater degree of fluidity — the curvaceous shank-and-stem arrangement actually appears as an "S" in profile. Additionally, Cunha has fashioned the bowl with a slightly more dramatic forward cant than the traditional LC, lending further dynamism to the shape's profile and emphasizing the stretched transition that much more. Dressing this piece is an appropriately Bruyere-esque smooth finish that highlights gorgeous flame grain across the bowl and shank alike.
