About This Pipe

Originally a glazier by trade, Henri Sørensen came to the craft of pipe making, like so many artisans, as a hobbyist that enjoyed smoking. After becoming enamored with the craft, he began to fashion pieces of his own. Since then, he has become one of Denmark's premier artisans, specializing in traditional Danish shapes that he beautifully embellishes with his tasteful accent work and vibrant finishes. A handsome example of Sørensen's style, this Acorn boasts a pronounced softness to its look, with a supple curvature dominating the totality of the composition and bespeaking a certain polished refinement. This aesthetic is most prominent at the bowl, which stands atop a lifted heel and flares ever-so-gradually upward before terminating at a broad, domed, smoothly polished rim. Out back, a wide transition sees the start of a gently upturned shank and a demurely curved saddle stem. The base of the aforementioned stem is accented with bright Osage orange, a hardwood whose warm coloration complements the stain of the smooth rim and shank end. The majority of the stummel wears a crisp, earth-toned sandblast that highlights some rippling grain across the flanks of the bowl.
