Rusticated Billiard Tobacco Pipe

Like many artisan makers, Henri Sørensen entered the craft through his love of pipe smoking, a hobby he shared with his brother. Originally a glazier by trade, Sørensen had always held an affinity for old-school craftsmanship, so it didn't take long before the Danish carver decided to make a pipe of his own. He draws inspiration from Denmark's rich pipe-making history, channeling the spirit of the Danish greats while imbuing his designs with a style that is singularly his own. This Billiard is a handsome showcase of Sørensen's style, possessing a reserved footprint less than five inches long. Though rather compact, the overall form is proportionally well balanced, with the bowl, shank, and stem visually and physically harmonious within the composition. Up front, the aforementioned bowl stands atop a plump heel and grows thick walls that gradually taper toward a flat, smoothly polished rim. A wide transition follows the bowl and marks the start of a sturdy shank that stretches out to meet a slim saddle stem of cultured amber. The stem's warm complexion mirrors the stain of the rim and shank end, with the mouthpiece and the smoothly polished sections of briar fostering a unique visual motif that contrasts the rest of the stummel. The bulk of the stummel boasts a striking rustication that's equal parts rugged and stylized, offering tight, dimpled grooves that evoke the look of scales.
