About This Pipe

Like many famous artisans, Henri Sørensen was an avid pipe smoker before he developed an interest in carving pipes. Sørensen learned the craft firsthand from Jens "Tao" Nielsen, and his approach to the art is heavily influenced by other Danish legends like Poul Ilsted, Tom Eltang, and Lasse Skovgaard. However, Sørensen's style stands out from his counterparts, as he favors muscular, bowl-forward shapes imbued with a quintessential Danish sense of gesture, although he is no stranger to tidy, traditional forms.

This bent Billiard is neoclassic fare from Henri Sørensen, although it does feature several notable flourishes. The bowl is the most archetypal element of this pipe, possessed of a soft heel, tapered walls, and an inflated rim. Out back, the shank sweeps upward from a low-slung transition, rising to a subtly flared shank face that is dressed in a smoky smooth finish, which provides a dash of contrast with the rugged texture of the sandblast on the stummel. Furthermore, the sandblast highlights an array of craggy growth rings that wrap around the bowl and squiggle down the flanks of the shank, providing plenty of visual and tactile intrigue. Moreover, this piece is exceptionally compact, measuring in at well-under five inches, making it ideal for those who prefer streamlined and lightweight pipes.
