About This Pipe
Hailing from Brazil, Emanuel de Queiroz Emiliano picked up pipe smoking while studying in seminary, which led him to the world of artisan pipes. After discovering pipes made by fellow Brazilians Gustavo Cunha and Flávia Rodriguez, Emiliano was inspired to craft his first pipe, which he made with nothing but a drill and a sander. After finding immediate success selling his pipes, Emiliano sought out other artisans to help him temper his skills, and he learned from such pipe makers as Luis Lavos, Angelo Fassi, and Angelo del Prete of Il Cerchio. Like many of his contemporaries, Emiliano crafts a full breadth of shapes, his creations ranging from striking Freehands to familiar, traditional pieces, all of which showcase elements of his unique aesthetic perspective.
This Billiard by Emiliano is instantly reminiscent of the Danish school, calling to mind designs by Former and Tom Eltang, two of Emiliano's favorite artisans. The tall bowl possesses a robust disposition, but its supple, Danish features, such as the plump waistline and the subtly inflated rim, keep the composition soft and inviting. Another neoclassic Danish design cue, a well-cheeked transition, emphasizes the contrast between the bowl's voluptuous contours and the cylindrical shank's streamlined form, while their congruent proportions keep the profile cohesive. Furthermore, a trim saddle stem continues the sleek profile and features a broad horn accent on its base, giving the composition an organic flourish. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in a chestnut smooth finish, which highlights a particularly eye-catching swath of birdseye on the bowl's left flank.
