Sandblasted Elf with Bamboo and Whale Vertebra Tobacco Pipe

Brazilian carver Emanuel de Queiroz Emiliano crafts a wide range of pipes, from unique, sculpture-inspired Freehands to more traditional shape-chart standards, with this Elf shape being something of a middle ground between the two. The Elf is one of Emiliano's signature shapes, and one of his most expressive as well. Essentially an amalgamation of the Egg and Acorn shape, the Elf boasts a unique bowl characterized by a pointed heel, curvaceous walls, and a defined rim. Said rim is usually raised higher at the aft than the fore, but this interpretation sees the rim oriented concavely, with the fore and aft raised above the center. This slight alteration lends the shape a pronounced sharpness that's continued through the shank-and-stem arrangement. The shank and stem exit the transition at a sharp angle that lends the shape a check mark-style outline, and a comfortable smoking posture. Two knuckles of warm bamboo extend the shank and add some organic flourish to the composition, the dense grass itself embellished with nodes of whale vertebra. A ruby-hued sandblast completes the ensemble and highlights rippling grain across the bowl's flanks.
