About This Pipe Tobacco

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

Created to commemorate Stokkebye's 100-year anniversary, Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation's 1982 Centennial blend is an Aromatic mixture of Golden Virginias, sweetened Black Cavendish, smooth Burleys, and small plugs of Navy-style flake, topped with aromas of French vanilla and blackberry.

Nica aroma. Nice sweetness with an initial burst of vanilla. No blackberry taste at all. Sounds good right? Nope. This stuff burns hot. Had to really keep it tamped and slow puffing to avoid tongue bite. Sorry had to rate below a 3.

Nice blend, stronger than it looks. Tastes good. Berry/vanilla topping is fairly subtle, less like it tastes of the topping and more like it evens the whole thing out and imparts a more nondescript flavoring. Tobacco tastes great, doesn’t get weak or ashy like a cheap aro once the topping cooks off. Very nice balance of Virginia and burley. Im pretty sensitive to some burley blends and avoid them if they mess with my mouth but this one didn’t do that even a little bit. It was very smooth. The smoke is nice and thick. It’s peppery on a robust retrohale but doesn’t roast the sinuses. Nicotine wasn’t heavy or even M+ more like M-… I let it air out a while, and smoke it when it’s drier than some tobaccos I smoke. I wasn’t a huge fan of 1897 but I’ll probably buy this one again....Read More
Disappointing, even for a new Pipe Smoker

I went to my local B&M after Erik came and visited. They had put a lot of his tobaccos in a bulk container and had it on special. As a new pipe smoker they recommended 1982. I have tried 8 different tobaccos - house blend and branded tins. This one has been by far the most disappointing. It never seems to burn right, the taste is just hot air, even for an aromatic and I will never purchase this again. Compared to Autumn Evening - this is just. Well. Poor....Read More

I find this blend smokes hot. Get carried away and you'll pay with a good bite. The flavors for me were difficult to separate and the room note was noted as equal to a cigarette by my wife. Not impressed.
Maybe I'm not the only one cheated by the offer.
