Crafted by the Fuente family for J.C. Newman Cigar Co., the Diamond Crown line was introduced in 1995 to commemorate Newman's 100th anniversary and was conceptualized as nothing less than the best cigar in the world. The original Diamond Crown cigar was one of the first cigars on the market to be offered in a larger-than-standard ring gauge, as Stanford Newman insisted that each vitola be gauged to 54 in order to fit a more complex and varied blend of fillers. By this insistence, Stanford paved the way for modern cigar makers to expand into larger ring gauge cigars on a broader scale, especially considering the wild success of the original blend after it was released. Initially a west coast exclusive, Diamond Crown cigars are produced by the Arturo Fuente cigar factory in the Dominican Republic and are held to strict standards of quality that ensure each smoke is consistent and delicious. The Diamond Crown Maduro boasts the same binder and filler blend as the original Diamond Crown blend, but trades the original's CFW Connecticut Shade wrapper for one of dark Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro, making for a richly flavorful smoke with distinct sweet notes.
