They are absorbent and get the pipe clean; however, be warned: they are very linty.
I find myself having to blow out the pipe or pick stray fuzz off the bit after use. Despite the mess, they’re effective and I keep them in my kit because they simply work.

Holy cow the lint. I think if I kept running one through my fingers it might just leave a bare wire by the time all the loose fibers stopped shedding off. Had to use a small shank brush to push out the wad of cotton one left in a stem.
