Solani - Aged Burley Flake - 656 50g
Dont Get The Appeal
I bought a few tins on faith. Opened one after a few years and smoked some a few times. Sold the unopened tins and gave some of the opened tin away. Well its strong so thats a plus. Other than that I find no redeeming qualities.
Gladora - Pesse Canoe Oriental Flake 50g
Bland
Mine was dry out of the tin. I dont get much flavour only a small bit of sweetness. Maybe some time in a jar?
Savinelli - 150th Anniversary Capri (310 KS)
Very Nice
Beautiful pipe. Nicer than the SP picture. First bowl was good. No filter or adapter was a plus also. Quite pleased overall.
Velvet - Velvet 7oz
PA plus
I hadnt smoked this decades. Its really quite good. Same type as Prince Albert but a bit milder and it has a sweet note also. I doubt it will usurp the Prince in my line up but its nice to have around.
Missouri Meerschaum - Cornell & Diehl Charles Towne Cobbler
Cracked
Attractive pipe at first glance. Three cracks in the shank. Stem was so tight its obvious that the cracks were a result of force used when it was assembled. Missouri Meershaum quality control is lacking. Smoking Pipes were quick with a refund and I hope they are compensated aswell.
Missouri Meerschaum - The Emerald Straight
Quality Issues Bent version
Loose stem. Finger nail polish fixed that. Stem doesnt line up with the bowl. Earped perhaps. Bowl is drilled quite a bit past where the shank enters the bowl. Add this up and its disappointing. If it were a briar I would return it. As it is this is quite a bit of money for cob and quality should be better. I just ordered a Cobbler and I hope it is better quality.
Missouri Meerschaum - Missouri Pride Straight (6mm)
Great
Ive had my Pride for 12 years. I have other cobs and several briars. I reach for this cob more than any. Dont let the price fool you. Mine smokes better than pipes thst cost over 10 times more.
Missouri Meerschaum - Let Freedom Ring 5th Avenue Straight (6mm)
Go Pride
Its ok but my advice is buy a Missouri Pride. Cheaper and about the sane size. My Pride is 12 years old and smokes great.
Peter Stokkebye - PS301 Natural Dutch Cavendish
Smooth and Tasty
I dont consider it an aromatic as descripton says. Cavendish isnt an aro in itself but is used with added flavor to make the goopers. This is "natural" Dutch cavendish. Some tobaccos have a natural sweetness. Maybe thats the reason for the aro description. Whatever it is its good and dont fear the goop with this one because its not there.
Missouri Meerschaum - The Louis Straight with Fiery Red Stem
Very Nice
I am partial to unfinished cobs but really liked the looks of this one. The stem is beautiful, better than the picture. Have only smoked it once so far but knew right away I had made a good choice. Not a fan of bent cobs but may have to have one of them also. Well worth having.
Replacement Stems - Peterson Semi-Bent System P-Lip Stem
Be Sure
Bought this for my older System 305. It is too small. However it fits my 312 and I like it better than the full bent fishtail that was in it. My 305 stem is fine I just wanted acrylic P-Lip for it. So I came out ok but be sure of what you want to use these replacements on.
Cornell & Diehl - Maple Cavendish
The quest continues
Good quality tobacco as expected from C&D. As for a maple I prefer their Autumn Evening. Perhaps what I want doesnt exist but I will continue my search for the ultimate maple.
Cornell & Diehl - Crooner
Not Sure
Just tried a bowl of this stuff and dont know what to think. The burley is very good and thats what I get. Not sure what the deer tongue adds but whatever it does it seems to help the burley flavor. Ive smoked burley for decades and this stuff is very good. Just bought an ounce to try so will see how it goes.
Rivertown Tobacco Works - Sir Vanderberry
Nice
It wasnt wet out of the bag like a lot of aros. Not dry either just moist. The berry was evident in taste and room note but I found no vanilla. It burned well and didnt get hot. I think those lamenting the demise of the Sutliff aros might find something they like in these Rivertown offerings.
Peter Stokkebye - PS9 Vanilla Creme
Vanilla?
Maybe my tastebuds are shot? I get no vanilla from this at all.
Peter Stokkebye - PS303 Peaches & Creme
Peach? Cream?
I get no peach or cream from this stuff. Same with the Vanilla Cream.
Sutliff - Molto Dolce 1.5oz
Bland
Not much flavor but leaves a nice room note. My tin will last me for years. Not a problem as it will never dry out.
Peterson - Irish Cask 50g
My #1
I keep this on hand. I smoke different blends too but if I could only have one, this is it. I haven't tried any since the name change but i will after my last few times of Oak are gone.
Peter Stokkebye - PS24 Nougat
Bland
I see a lot of people like this but I get very little flavor from it at all.
Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning 2oz
Nope
Way to much perique for me. Not a bad taste but not something I find appealing. Ive been looking for something along the lines of Peterson Irish Oak. This isnt it.
Mac Baren - Navy Flake 3.5oz
Nice
The best if not the only true navy flake their is. While there are some good Virginia flake available, most if not all, forgo the rum.
Peter Stokkebye - PS35 Champagne
As expected.
This is good quality as expected from PS. I like to mix a bit of this with the PS English Oriental but its a tasty smoke on its own.
Edward G. Robinson - Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend 12oz
Nice
I find myself reaching for this more all the time.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening
Who Knew?
I didn't think I liked aromatics until, on a whim, I bought a tin of We Three Kings. I liked it so much I ordered more and a friend gave me some Autumn Evening. This stuff is also a great smoke. Just enough Maple so that you know its there. I may be an aromatic smoker after all?
Cornell & Diehl - We Three Kings 2oz
Fantastic
As someone who smokes a lot of OTC blends and Virginia flake I shy away from aromatics as a rule but this sounded interesting. To my surprise I found that I absolutely love this stuff. C&D scored a homerun with this one.
Cleaners & Cleaning Supplies - Brebbia Stem Polish (7.5 ml)
nope
Gritty substance so I don't doubt it will remove oxidation but as a polish it just left a nice haze on my pipe stem. I will stick to chap stick and olive oil.
Newminster - No. 400 Superior Navy Flake
Nice
This is fine flake. Anyone who likes Virginia should give this a go. It is straight Virginia without the Rum and or Perique found in some Navy flake but still a nice flake.
