Lighters - IMCO Pipe Lighter - Silver
You get what you pay for.
I have smoked pipes for many years and grew up on IMCO lighters. I recall searching for replacements for my IMCO lighters because the manufacturer reportedly went out of business several years age, and their lighters weren't available anymore. I was surprised to find them back on the market again. I don't know if the rights to use the name was purchased by someone who has remarket them is what happened or what. This lighter is not the original lighter. These new IMCO lighters are worth the price if you consider that they only cost the equivalent of a few disposables ones but will last longer. I also like this lighter over the electric spark lighters that weigh heavier in your pocket. The tamper is for light use only in cases when you misplace your normal tamper, so it's not a big deal if it's a little flimsy. So far, I've had mine long enough to replace the flint twice, and it still performs as good as the day I got it. The only shortcoming is all the pictures of pipes on the side. I think that is a little cartoonish. Not to worry though; they all rub off is short fashion.
Lighters - Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation Pipe Lighter
It has been a good lighter for me
I purchased one of these lighters when they were first available through Smoking Pipes, and it has never failed me. I have two thoughts, though, that may need addressed. Firstly, the tool that comes with it has no instructions, so I don't know for sure what it is. One end is a tamper, and the other is a swing-out pointy device. It appears to be a slightly rasped bar, for what I don't know. It's not long enough to be a reamer or bowl cleaner. Secondly, the flame adjustment was low even at full throttle. I found it necessary to remove the base of the lighter to move the adjustment screw over the stop so that I could adjust the flame to a greater flame. It works fine now. As a side note, I found that standard butane refills (typically bought at convenient marts) to have a filling spot too large for this lighter. I was required to find an alternative source of butane with the required narrow fill tube that fit this lighter's inlet valve. Having said all this, I find this lighter to now be very good, so far. I even purchased a couple more.
