Not The Same
First, I must admit to not being a fan of English blends, specifically because of the Latakia. And it was this dislike that drove me to Presbyterian Blend in the first place. In the original blend, the Latakia was a back note. The MacBaren version is much more Latakia forward and far less sophisticated. That doesn't mean that it is a bad tobacco; it's just not for me. My problem is that I have several unopened tins that I have no intentions of smoking. Maybe the fact that it no longer comes tinned is indicative.....

I have a love-hate relation with this tobacco. First, I must concede that I do not possess the refined palate of other reviewers. Therefore I am unable to discern the interplay of the various component tobaccos. All I am able to provide is whether I like the tobacco or not and why. This tobacco has a thoroughly wonderful flavor; hay or grass, spice (maybe cinnamon) and a subtle sweetness that does not seem to come from a flavoring and dissipates slightly as the tobacco dries out. Also it lacks the "bite" so characteristic of other Mac Baren's Cavendish blends I have tried. I could smoke this blend all day, every day. The "hate" component is that I do not like the plug cut. Evidently unlike the others that have tried this blend, I find it difficult to rub out (I try the same method as I use with Flakes), to pack in my pipe, and to light. Granted, I've never tried a plug cut before so PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong! I so want to love, love this tobacco!
