About This Pipe
Wojtek Pastuch is among the most versatile and capable artisan pipe makers. His portfolio ranges from highly classic iterations to completely wild, utterly singular shapes, and he treats his workshop more like a mad scientist's lab than a woodworking space, concocting experiments with different materials and pushing the boundaries of pipe shaping. This Lovat, however, reveals the Polish carver's faculty with and expertise in shape-cart classic designs.
Though the traditional Lovat is defined by an elongated shank and abbreviated saddle stem, this particular rendition maintains a compact overall form, measuring under five inches in total length. It's a perfect, practical smoker, combing stunning grain and artistry into a small footprint. Birdseye saturates the flanks, with cross grain bisecting the bowl, and a pale accent of mammoth beautifully contrasts against the briar's rich, chestnut stain. A rounded rim softens the profile and hints at Danish inspiration, while the hand-cut stem of vulcanite exhibits Pastuch's recognizable button work: The slot is wide and open, and the edges are all nicely rounded for optimal smoking comfort.
